My Training
My Story
Kaitlin first found herself in Postpartum Doula work while working as a nanny for a family who had just had their second baby. Falling into the role of helping mama and baby get off to a smooth, comfortable start was natural for her. Kaitlin is an intuitive helper who doesn’t need a lot of direction; she takes care of the practical things so that families can rest and bond with their new baby.
Kaitlin attended her first birth as a Doula in 2005 and has been fascinated by birth ever since. She has taken many trainings and classes and feels confident in her ability to support families during such a sacred time.
Kaitlin has extensive experience with infants and with helping new siblings adjust to their new family structure. She also has experience with families of all dynamics: two-parent, single parent, LGBTQ+ families, adoptive families, and families with disabilities.
With her schooling to to be a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Kaitlin brings with her an abundance of infant feeding knowledge. She can help you with latch and positioning, tips and tricks for pumping/returning to work, and helping the breastfed baby take a bottle when the time is right.
When Kaitlin is not assisting new families, she enjoys spending time with her wife and their silly old dog, preferably on an adventure around the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
My Philosophy
As a Postpartum Doula, Kaitlin believes in supporting the
parent-baby dyad in a way that has minimal interventions and is as hands-off as possible. By doing this, the new family truly learns from one another. Kaitlin provides evidenced-based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, parent-baby bonding, infant soothing, babywearing, and basic newborn care. She is there to help a new family in those first days and weeks after meeting their baby.
As a Birth Doula, Kaitlin's role is to accompany birth parents (and partners) in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. She will draw upon her knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort, and facilitate communication with the staff to ensure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions regarding your baby’s birth. Kaitlin can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning, and other techniques for comfort. Her job is to help you feel secure and confident.
